Since years i have a filer based storage at home. In former times it was based on Linux with software-raid5 it worked out very well. After i moved i heard about OpenSolaris and ZFS so after some playing around with VMware and OpenSolaris is just decided to have a filer based on OpenSolaris, so i checked the HCL and started buying.
- M3A-H/HDMI (including onboard ATI/RD and atge NIC)
- AMD 4850e X2
- 4GB RAM
- 4x 1TB WD
- 2x 500GB WD (old stuff)
- Rebel Case
- HDD Fans
after working through the atge NIC setup everything was fine.
Things missing with this setup:
- wake-on-lan (wol)
- cool and quite (not with my cpu)
- S.M.A.R.T. (which I was using for health check of the HDDs)
